Case Study:
Landmark HK x Ines de la Fressange — Miniature Ice-Skating
Engineering Dynamic Miniature Motion integrated in a festive lightshow
Bringing a dynamic, moving miniature scene to life inside a premier luxury atrium requires absolute technical precision. For the 2014 Landmark Christmas installation inspired by French style icon Ines de la Fressange, aimL translated a 1960s Parisian miniature ice-skating concept into a flawlessly operating visual centerpiece.

We conducted a detailed intake of Ines de la Fressange’s visual storyboards for the miniature ice-skating scene. Acting as design interpreters, we decoded the atmospheric Parisian elements—scale, figure proportions, track movement, and lighting—into precise, buildable mechanical and visual specifications.
Decoding Artistic Concept into Mechanical Parameters
1
Structural Diagnostics, Mechanical Feasibility & Site Approval
Prior to fabrication, we performed comprehensive site diagnostic reviews of the atrium floor load limits. We collaborated with Authorized Persons (AP) and Registered Structural Engineers (RSE) to verify weight distribution, evaluate motor power requirements, conduct risk assessments, and secure necessary sign-offs.
2
aimL generated detailed technical shop drawings, gear/track specs, and electrical layouts. We established a strict Project Quality Plan, managed the fabrication of custom miniature mechanisms, and conducted rigorous off-site mockups to stress-test the continuous skating motion, speed control, and lighting before bringing components on-site.
Technical Blueprinting, Vendor Sourcing & Off-Site Mechanical Testing

We directed specialized trade teams through a tight overnight installation sequence inside the live atrium. Following final safety checks, speed calibration, and visual sign-offs, aimL delivered a "Site-Ready" installation, handing off a fully operational, mesmerizing miniature ice-skating scene for the grand public reveal.
